Troy Jessup Atkinson, Sr. age 87, passed away on February 9, 2023 at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland of natural causes. He was the loving husband of Rose Marie Atkinson. They shared 66 years of marriage together, 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina was the son of William Preston and Lottie Atkinson, Sr. He graduated from Topsail High School and University of Maryland with a degree in Business Management. He spent his career in service with the United States Navy from 1954 to 1976 when he retired as a Chief Yeoman (YNC). His final duty was serving the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Forest Heights Baptist Church, Oxon Hill Maryland until they retired in 2006. At the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, Maryland he was treasurer, a member of the vestry and choir for the Charlestown United Protestant Church. He will be most remembered for his love for his family, tireless dedication to church service and, service to his country. Troy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose Marie Atkinson, his two sons Troy Jessup, Jr. (Marie) and Michael Jon (Margaret), son in love Louis (Jody), his granddaughters Leah (Emily), Lauren Rose (Robert), Michelle Marie (Josh), Caroline Elizabeth, great-granddaughters, Dorothy Rose and Penelope Marie. He was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Rose. The Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be held on Saturday March 11, 2023. Family visitation will start at 10:30 am with service at 11 am at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel on the campus of Charlestown Senior Living, Catonsville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, Troy’s wishes were for donations to the “Professor Sharon R. Drummeter Nursing Scholarship” in care of Shepard University Foundation, P.O. Box 5000 Shepherdstown WV 25443-5000.
