Albert E West

Albert West, 91, of Riverdale, MD passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026 with his family at his side. He was born Dec. 31, 1934 in the old Hicks house in Shady Grove, Alabama to Grover C. West and Mabel Motes. He attended Shellhorn school, Henderson High School in Troy and later Troy State University. He served in the Army Security Agency in fixed Morris Code radio teletype from 1955-57. After college Al worked as a mathematician for Pan American Airways at Cape Canaveral, FL. During his employ there he met his future wife Barbara L. (Hoover) West and they were married in May 1965 in her hometown of Springfield, OH. Following their marriage, they moved to Maryland where Al worked for Wolf Research and Development, and several NASA contracting companies throughout his career. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, love of country music, and his passion for Alabama Crimson Tide College Football, which he watched religiously. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 2000. He leaves behind his son Jeffrey West of Lewes, DE, his daughter Kimberly Folea of Columbia, MD, his granddaughter Lauren Trombetta of Westminster, MD, his grandson John Folea Jr. of Baltimore, MD and his three great grandsons, Joseph, Zeke and Judah of Westminster, MD. No service will be held per his request, and burial will private.
