August Nemec, Jr

August Rudolph "Augie" Nemec Jr., 84, of Baltimore, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and outdoorsman, Augie lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family.

Born on October 18, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, Augie was the son of the late August Nemec and Elsie Nemec (née Ourednik). He was also preceded in death by his beloved older sister, Eileen Nemec Pilkerton.

The greatest love story of Augie's life began on a softball field when he met a young girl named June. She was just fifteen years old, and from that moment on, they built a remarkable life together. Augie and June shared 57 years of marriage, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Following June's passing last year after a long and courageous battle with dementia, those who knew Augie could see that a part of his heart had gone with her. He simply was never quite the same without the love of his life by his side.

Augie proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed overseas in Germany and France. Among his proudest accomplishments during his military service was earning Soldier of the Month honors three times in a single year—an achievement that, to his knowledge, no one else had accomplished.

Following his military service, Augie dedicated 41 years of hard work to Bethlehem Steel. He took great pride in providing for his family and exemplified the values of perseverance, integrity, and commitment throughout his career.

Above all else, Augie was a family man. He was the proud father of two children, Augie III and Jennifer. As an active Cub Scout den leader, he devoted countless hours to the activities and interests of his children and rarely missed one of their sporting events. Whether cheering from the sidelines, volunteering his time, or simply being present, his family always knew they could count on him.

Augie found peace and joy in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter who cherished the friendships and traditions formed over decades spent in the Pennsylvania woods. Since 1967, he made annual trips up Interstate 83 to Lycoming County and the White Oak Hunting Club, where he hunted alongside family and friends, creating memories and stories that would be shared for generations.

He was preceded in death not only by his parents, sister, and beloved wife, but also by many dear friends whom he missed greatly over the years. Thankfully, he also leaves behind many lifelong friends who will remember his steady presence, sense of humor, and amazing resilience.

Augie is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Gostomski, son-in-law, Ken; and his granddaughter, Faith, as well as his son, Augie Nemec, III, daughter-in-law, Mary; his grandchildren, Melissa, Kristy, and Augie IV; and his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Aiden, and Colin. In addition, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, his Mispillion Road family, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure their memories of him.

Those who were blessed to be a part of Augie’s fruitful life knew that he loved his family more than anything else in this world. His greatest accomplishments were not measured by awards or years of service, but by the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, strength, kindness, and commitment that will continue through the generations that follow.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
