Barbara Jeanne Greenfield

Barbara Jeanne Greenfield passed away on July 30 2025 surrounded by her immediate family, sucumming to the complications of Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Perry, her three children: Katie (Chris) Brown, Jackie Greenfield, and Lauren Carter, her sister Mary Joyce, and her brother Theodore Johnston and his wife Adele, and nephews Theodore and Kevin (Alexandra). She was the daughter of Theodore and Mildred Johnston, both of which predeceased her. 

She grew up in Manhattan's Washington Heights, New York City, moving to Eatontown NJ at 16 when her father was transferred by Bell Labs. She too started working at Bell Labs, beginning in the mailroom, moving to the patent office, technical library, and finally as a computer programmer in the Microwave Transmission Department, where she met her husband Perry. They moved to Maryland in 1984 where she raised her three daughters. Eventually she started working in the local school system, first in the River Hill High School library, and eventually ending up in as the central office receptionist before her retirement in 2015. 

Barbara cherished her home and family above all. She adored her cats and dogs, nurtured her garden, enjoyed cooking, and took pride in decorating for holidays, especially Christmas. She also developed a keen interest in her family’s ancestry. A passionate traveler, she visited all 50 states, and several countries. Being a social butterfly, she made friends wherever she went. Her family and friends will deeply miss her.
