Brian William Dunphy

Brian Dunphy, of Timonium, MD, passed away on Thursday, August 20th, 2026 at the age of 79 after a long illness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Nina Dunphy (nee Lanci); loving son, Nicholas Dunphy and his wife, Jeannie; and beloved grandson, Liam Dunphy; his sister Debbie Kemp (Rod); his brother, Thomas Dunphy (Maureen) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his “bonus son” Todd Lyons (Katy) and “bonus grandsons” Huck and Ozzy Lyons. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathy Dunphy and parents, Thomas and Anna Dunphy.

Brian was born and raised in East Baltimore and was a proud graduate of City College and went on to join the United States Army and served as an Army Medic. His service took him abroad and he was stationed in Landstuhl, Germany. Following his military service, Brian continued his education at Towson University where he earned a B.S. and also met his future wife, Nina Lanci. Brian later earned an M.B.A. from Loyola University. Brian and Nina made a home in Timonium, MD and later became parents to their beloved son, Nicholas.

Brian worked in various medical settings including the American Red Cross, Maryland General Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital where he managed the medical laboratories. He retired from Hopkins in 2011. Brian also pioneered the development of various molecular fixatives and formaldehyde-free tissue preservation processes. He was awarded a patent for his work.

Brian had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life. He was a lifelong Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Colts fan. Brian enjoyed attending his son Nicholas’ lacrosse and football games and was especially proud seeing Nicholas sworn in as an attorney. Brian cherished the time he had with his beloved grandson, Liam. Brian and Liam shared a special bond and loved discussing the space program, math and all things related to STEM. Brian shared a special bond with his daughter-in-law, Jeannie. They enjoyed going to concerts together, sharing their love of photography and enjoying Polish sausage during the holidays. Brian also shared a love of aviation with his family and friends.

Brian was a hardworking and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He mentored countless students and coworkers over the years. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need and had a strong faith in the Lord. Brian will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. In his later years, he was fortunate to be cared for by his devoted wife, Nina, in their home and his bravery in his final days will be an inspiration to all.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 9215 Old Harford Road, Parkville, MD 21234, on Saturday, September 26th, at 11A.M. Interment at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, 13305 Long Green Pike, Hydes, MD 21082.
