Catherine Lynn Trayer, known affectionately to her family and friends as Cathy, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on April 22, 1949, Cathy was a vibrant soul whose legacy of love and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cathy worked for over 20 years as the office manager at Shamrock, the family business that provided professional cleaning services in Baltimore. She worked hard to contribute to the family business and always supported her family at work and at home.
Cathy was a dedicated Mom-Mom. She attended sporting events, concerts, performances and graduations. She shared many traditions such as green mash potatoes, trips to the big rock, fairy gardens, shopping excursions, beach gift bags, reindeer food, advent calendars, sick days and Camp Mom-Mom, just to name a few.
A devoted volunteer at St. Charles Borromeo School and Church in Pikesville, MD, Cathy’s commitment to her community mirrored her dedication to her own family. Both she and her children thrived in the nurturing environment of the school and cherished the friendships formed there.
Cathy was an independent and strong-willed woman. She took immense pride in her family and home, ensuring everyone felt like they belonged. She was an amazing cook and hostess, consistently creating a warm atmosphere filled with delicious food and laughter. Her home epitomized the spirit of togetherness, especially during the holiday season, a time she cherished dearly. Every Thanksgiving, her favorite day, she hosted a comforting home-cooked dinner, bringing everyone together and making sure everyone had the food that brought them joy. Each year, during Christmas, she transformed her home into a holiday wonderland, decorating every room with care and thoughtfulness, and generously selecting gifts for those she loved.
Beyond the festive occasions, Cathy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her passions included gardening, dancing to Motown music, swimming, solving crossword puzzles, doing needlepoint and crafts, indulging in British mysteries and political discussions. A lover of the beach and all its serenity, she often found peace in the gentle waves and the songs of birds that surrounded her.
Cathy leaves behind her beloved husband, Gary Trayer, and her cherished daughters, Andrea Thornton and Amanda Trayer. She delighted in her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren: Alex Bragg, Natalie Thornton, Sydney Thornton, Amelia Gean, and Quinn Gean. Cathy also leaves behind her dear sisters Jane Lawson and Margaret Reed, her brother, Doug Lawson, and sister-in-law Kathy Lawson. She will be missed by many additional cousins, nieces, and nephews whose lives she touched.
She is reunited in spirit with her parents, Joseph and Eleanor Lawson, her sister, Patricia Dahl, her brother, Michael Lawson, and her brothers-in-law, Richard Dahl and Russell Reed.
Cathy's life was a testament to love, strength, and warmth. She inspired those around her not only through her actions but also through the remarkable woman she was. Her memory will continue to live on in the stories we share, the traditions we honor, and the love we carry forward.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
