Charlotte Lee (Stuart) Albert passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, with four of her children by her side.
Charlotte was born July 17, 1933, in Baltimore, MD, the youngest child of John Wilson & Hattie Lizette Stuart. Charlotte married John R Albert Sr. in February 1950 at the tender age of 16 and went on to have six children. Her marriage to John ended in divorce in 1978. Always a devoted stay at home Mom, Charlotte made the decision to return to school at age 40 so that she could better support herself and her three youngest children. Having only a 10th grade education, Charlotte started attending Catonsville Community College part-time at night, getting her GED and earning her associate degree. She accomplished this while working full-time and raising her youngest three children. Her passion for helping others spurred her to seek a degree in clinical sociology from Towson State University, graduating with honors. She earned her master’s degree in social work in 1992.
Charlotte’s compassion and drive led her to work in many different settings – House of Ruth, Mosaic, Baltimore Behavioral Health – to name a few. Retiring at age 65, she immediately returned to the work she loved, working full-time, then part-time until fully retiring at the age of 79.
While she loved her work, family was everything to her! She was happiest when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She loved our Stuart family reunions and enjoyed celebrating all of her family’s joys and triumphs. Charlotte loved the Lord quietly and demonstrated her faith in God in how she lived her life, especially in her later years. Charlotte LOVED coffee and all things chocolate. Her love of animals started early on, even naming, and befriending the chickens her Mom raised to support the family’s table. She especially loved her cats and found great pleasure in having these furry companions.
Charlotte is survived by her six children, John Raymond Albert Jr, Mary Kathleen Tracy, Robert Louis Albert Sr, Margaret A Leek, Edward Martin Albert (Kim Jacobs), and Paul Joseph Albert (Cathy Phillips ); eight grandchildren, Joseph C Hammen, Amanda Leek, Jack Leek, Melynda Townley (Madison), Robert L Albert Jr., Jeb Albert (Amanda), and Paul Joseph Albert Jr (Ke’Von); and ten great-grandchildren, Blaze (Hammen) Verschaeve, Isabella Marie Hammen, Jason Michael Hammen Jr., Chase Skrincosky, Paige Skrincosky, Charlena Albert, Zoey Albert, Evelyn Albert, Charlotte Albert, and Beau Townley. Her grandson, Jason Michael Hammen Sr. preceded her in death. She is also survived by her sister, Rhoda (Stuart) Whytsell and many nieces and nephews.
Viewings will be held at McNabb’s Funeral Home, 301 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, MD on Sunday, July 30th from 10am -12 noon and 2pm - 3pm, followed by a brief celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the ASPCA or your local Animal Rescue.
