On February 28th, the love of my life left me. We had almost 56 years together, for which I am eternally grateful. We have an amazing daughter, Kathy, and two wonderful granddaughters, Adelyn and Hazel.
Born and raised in New York, David went to George Washington University as their first music major. After college he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Worms Germany, my hometown. There he joined the 76th Army band, playing oboe and the Glockenspiel when there was a parade. He had fun playing under a half deaf conductor who conducted with his elbows (his words).
David had also joined the Chapel Choir, where he joked, that not only was he the only tenor there but also the only Jew. I was in my local protestant choir and we had the Americans over for a church social. I sat next to David, I was seventeen years old, and the rest is history!
After we got married we moved to Vicenza Italy, where David became ‘Entertainment Director’ meaning he was responsible for putting on theatre productions, musicals, classical concerts, always involving soldiers and their families. I myself was very much involved and we had glorious times – a bit of homesickness for Europe never left us!
After moving to Baltimore in 1989, David ended up working for SSA as a Computer Whiz – welcoming the challenges of new technology. He too was a passionate musician, with his oboe and English horn, playing in several local orchestras, Concert Bands and chamber groups. I know the highlight of his musical life was signing up for the BSO Academy where he got to perform the famous English horn solo in Respighi’s ‘Pines of Rome’. His feet didn’t touch the ground in months after that!
Going to that church social in 1970, was the best thing I ever did!
