Edward Patrick Smulsky, affectionately known to most as "Pop", passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2026, in Columbia, MD after a short battle with cancer. He was born on March 17th,1938 in Grindstone, PA. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served our country for 9 years. He married his high school sweetheart, Angeline M. Ottaviani, and moved to Gaithersburg, MD to begin his career in Heating and Air Conditioning and to start a family.
Throughout his life, he could be found spending time with his beloved family, camping, attending his kids', grandkids' and great grandkids' many activities, playing golf or at the Knights of Columbus, where he and Angie felt right at home on the dance floor.
After retirement, and in addition to golf and family time, he spent his days enjoying breakfast and banter at McD's with his crew or at his "part time job" at the Charlestown Casino.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Angie. He is survived by his son, Patrick and wife, Kathy, of Louisa, VA, his daughter Kristen Carter and her boyfriend, Eric, of Columbia, MD, his grandchildren, Shane Smulsky (wife Meilissa), Taylor Smulsky (wife Emily), and Peri Carter, his great grandchildren Wyatt, Mitchell and Collin, his brothers Richard Kensinger and Gerald Kensinger, several sisters in law, his brother in law and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life has been scheduled for Saturday, July 25th, 2026, from 1pm-4pm at the Knights of Columbus Council 2323 in Derwood, MD.
