On December 14, 2025, Buddy passed away peacefully in Towson, Maryland. The loving son of Frank and Ida (Sanzo) Mandato, Buddy was born on March 2, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Baltimore.
Following his graduation from Milford Mill High School, he enlisted in the Army and served two years in the artillery division, stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, Buddy took a job as a groom at Pimlico Racecourse which led him to a 50-year career as a trainer of racehorses, working primarily in Maryland and Florida.
Buddy leaves behind his brother Jack Mandato of Vero Beach, Florida and sisters Rita Bonsall of Bel Air and Joan Lambertson of Hunt Valley, plus many nieces and nephews. He was also an active member of the American Legion posts 22 and 183.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
