Helen Smith Ritter

Helen Nora Smith Ritter (aka Holly), 77, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 4, 2026, in Ellicott City, Maryland. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Helen carried a spirit of grace and warmth with her throughout her seventy-seven years.

A devoted wife to John Ritter, Helen’s greatest pride was her family. She was a loving mother to her sons, Vincent Ritter and Jake Smith, and found her greatest joy in her role as a grandmother. Her grandsons, Tucker and Colton Smith, were the center of her world, and the time she spent with them created memories that will be cherished forever.

Helen was a woman with many passions. She had a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of ballet and was an avid reader who could often be found lost in a good book. Her compassion extended to all living things; she was a tireless lover of animals, sharing her home and heart with many beloved cats and dogs over the years.

Friends and family will fondly remember Helen’s vibrant personality—perhaps best represented by her love of a good margarita, always served with salt on the rim and shared in the company of those she loved.

She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, elegance, and devotion that will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and all who knew her.

Helen is survived by her husband John of nearly 40 years, and two sons, Jake Smith and Vincent Ritter. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Tucker and Colton Smith.

The family will be having a private service/celebration of life for this beautiful, amazing, and caring women whom was loved so much. The family would like to thank you all for the love and support through these difficult times.
