Hugh Leroy Marsh III, known to family and friends as Lee, died in September 2026 at his home in Parkville, Maryland. He was 73.
Lee was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Agnes Marsh (née Davis), as well as his brother David. The oldest of four Marsh children, he is survived by his brothers Stephen and Samuel Marsh.
He was the devoted father of Jonathan D. Marsh and his wife Victoria and Jacob A. Marsh, and the loving stepfather of Joshua R. Davis and his wife Kerrie, Elizabeth, and Rebecca G. Dillon. He was also the proud grandfather of eight.
Born in Texas, Lee lived briefly in Australia and later in Pennsylvania before settling in Maryland. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1971 and earned degrees in social work (1977) and computer science (1983) from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He worked in social work and helped launch the Christian Institute for Human Relations and Hermitage House Youth Services. His move to computer science in 1983 began a career of four decades, mostly in service to the federal government. He supported the U.S. Senate, the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, the National Library of Medicine, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the U.S. Marshals Service, and received a corporate Service In Action award at the request of the Assistant Attorney General.
After retiring in 2022, Lee pursued his passion for Irish music and poetry. He founded Lee Marsh Publishing and spent his last years as a poet, singer, and musician, playing Irish and American folk music on guitar and bodhrán.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held. A musical session in Lee's honor will take place at a later date, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lee's memory to BSO OrchKids at orchkids.org/donate.
