Iris Foxwell passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2026 after a long battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unmistakable style.
Iris, born on August 31,1955 in Maryland, was the daughter of Lucy and Maurice “Buddy” Shipley. She lived in Lutherville, Maryland for much of her life. She recently retired with her husband, Andy, to their beloved “River House” on the Eastern Shore, a place where she found deep peace and endless joy.
She was a true renaissance woman, embracing life with creativity and passion. Over the years, she was a barber, aerobics instructor, interior designer, real estate investor, and artist. Interior design was especially close to her heart. She had an eye for beauty and an instinct for making spaces feel special. Beyond this, she was an incredible cook, dedicated friend, and deeply loving mother to her son, Louis, whom she shared with former husband, Dr. Milford Foxwell.
Iris’s joy for life shone through everything she did. Iris had an adventurous spirit and a love of staying active; participating regularly in tennis, beach volleyball, boating and kayaking. Those who loved her will remember her as goofy, shrewd, selfless, the life of the party, and a true warrior.
Iris is survived by her husband Alexander “Andy” Reitz, her son and daughter-in-law Louis and Rachael Foxwell, her stepchildren Alexandra, Nicholas, Warren, and Hannah Reitz, and her step-granddaughter Altamira Heller.
She will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and always remembered for her strength and her unforgettable laugh. Those who loved her feel lucky to have had the opportunity to enjoy life with her. Her laugh will echo through our minds forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Iris at Konstantine’s Greek Taverna, one of her favorite restaurants, on February 7th from 12-4pm. Friends and family are free to drop by any time during this window to pay their respects and join us in celebrating Iris's life.
