Catonsville

James F. McGuire, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on January 2, 2025, in Catonsville, MD. Born on January 4, 1940, Jim dedicated his life to his family, his country, and his profession.

Jim honorably served in the Army from 1961 to 1964, bringing discipline and commitment to his subsequent career. He graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in Electronics, which paved the way for his impactful career at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) where he worked as an Engineer and Project Manager. His love and passion for space exploration and supporting his country made a profound difference in NASA’s mission and the people of this country. He was involved in numerous space programs over the span of his 38 year career at NASA most of them which continue to impact our daily lives.

A devout member and contributor to the Catholic Church and most recently Our Lady of the Angels Church, Jim found solace and strength in his faith. His hobbies that he truly mastered included photography and teaching, passions that he poured himself into because of the difference it made for others. His photos captured some of the most precious moments of his grandchildren. He loved being a mentor and teacher and especially sharing about his work at NASA with school children.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rose Mary McGuire; his children, James McGuire Jr.(Regina), Mary Kay McGuire, and Eileen Robertson Hamra (Mike); and his grandchildren, Patrick, Danny, and John McGuire, Melanie, Brooke, and Max Robertson, and Zack Hamra, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia McGuire, and his son-in-law, Brian Robertson.

Visitation will be held on January 11th, at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Angels Church at Charlestown Senior Living Center in Catonsville, MD. Jim’s life will be celebrated with the same warmth and affection he bestowed on others throughout his remarkable life.
