In Memory of Jerrold “Jerry” George Dietz
March 9, 1933 – June 1, 2025
aged 92 years
Ellicott City, Maryland
Jerry was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Bayport, New York by parents Bea and Edward Dietz. He excelled at baseball, but chose to join the Marine Corps at 17 and fought in the Korean War achieving the rank of Sergeant. He spent most of his career working for Toyota in Delray Beach, Florida. Before that, he was a firefighter in Bayport, New York. He was a hard worker at his job and at home. Jerry raised his children on Long Island, New York and in Boca Raton, Florida. He was a gifted storyteller, had endless humorous anecdotes, and will leave a colorful lexicon. He loved to dance and, we’re told, he was pretty good at it. He had an endless love of music, including greats such as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Sam Cooke. He was always up for a new adventure. He was a very proud husband, father, and grandfather, and later in life, brother. Jerry spent his later years near family in Ellicott City, Maryland, where he ultimately passed.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda Dietz, sister Judy Student, and children: Jack Dietz and his wife Joanne, Cindy-jo Dietz and her partner Matt Lux, and Jerry Dietz and his wife Julia. He has a brood of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whose names we don’t have space to write in.
In lieu of flowers, Jerry would have appreciated donations to the Bayport Fire Department and the National Marine Corps Museum.
