Joan Harriet Pfister (nee Oliver), age 94, of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania peacefully stepped into grace with our Lord on Sunday, December 14, 2025 surrounded by family. “Mimi”, as she was affectionately adorned by her many grandchildren, joins her faithfully departed husbands Arthur Ellsworth (Pappy) Pfister and John (Jack) Howells in eternal glory.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 4, 1931 to Eugene and Hazel Oliver, Joan was a graduate of Patterson Park High School and a longtime active member of Graceland United Methodist Church. Forever generous and always willing to lend a hand, she also volunteered in the Recovery room at Franklin Square Hospital and at Animal Rescue in Baltimore touching countless lives. Mimi’s pride and joy was her family, always warming their hearts with her loving spirit, hugs, and smiles.
She is survived by her sister Joyce O. Newcomb, two daughters; Hazel Bertholdt & her husband, Wayne Sr., with children, Rachel Willis and Wayne Jr., and Joyce Leggett & her husband Mike, with children, PJ Conrad, Becky Lee Conrad & husband Dan Mackey, and Michael Jr. & wife Jessica, her daughter-in-law, Laura Pfister, with Arthur Pfister Jr.’s children, Kara Hartloff and Jessica, as well as nine great-grandchildren; Michael Hartloff Jr. & wife Paige, Kayla, Julius, Kate, Leah, Jackson, Ben, Aden, Caroline, and many nieces and nephews .In addition to her husbands, Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Benjamin F. Oliver and Eugene F. Oliver Jr., and her son, Arthur Pfister Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to Graceland United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.
A celebration of life will be held on January 10, 2026 at Graceland United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Maryland; visitation begins at 10 A.M and Service at 11. A luncheon will follow. All are invited and encouraged to attend and share in reflecting the joy Mimi brought to the world.
