Joan Concetta Riesinger (February 27th, 1943 to November 2nd, 2025)
Joan Concetta Riesinger, age 82, of Westminster, MD died Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Carroll Lutheran Village after a brief and courageous battle with head and neck cancer.
Joan was born in Baltimore in 1943 to Wilson and Rosalie Hammel. She attended Holy Cross School and St. Ann's Business School before working at First National Bank and later, as an office manager at Lakeside Village Apartments in Severn, MD. Joan's favorite pastimes included taking day trips with George, family vacations to the beach, cruising with close friends, crocheting for the Linus Club, making biscotti, crafting, going to the casino, Sapienza "Girls Weekends", and Uno tournaments and Monopoly marathons with her great-nieces. She enjoyed the simple things in life, particularly spending time with her family. She never missed a birthday, family celebration, or any reason to get together. One of her most cherished family roles was that of dearest Aunt Joan to her niece, nephews, and great-nieces. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, George Riesinger in 2020, and well as her parents. She is survived by brothers Francis Hammel (Carol) of Sykesville, MD and Augustine Hammel, of Baltimore, MD, nephew David Hammel (Katrina) of San Marcos, CA, niece Karen Michelsen (Greg) of Berryville, VA, and nephew Stephen Hammel (Jena) of Hamilton, VA, as well as 4 great-nieces and many beloved cousins.
A mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, November 20th, 2025 at 11:00am at Holy Cross Church in Baltimore, MD, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. At Joan's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer research.
