Joel Henry Oleinik, 70, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born December 2, 1955, in Bethesda, Maryland, Joel was a standout baseball and basketball player who went on to play baseball at George Washington University and in the minor leagues. He earned his law degree from George Washington University, and served the State of Maryland as a contract litigator, known for his tireless work ethic and his exacting attention to detail.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rosalind; his son, James (Healy); his daughter, Jessica (Dean Bostwick); his grandchildren, Evelyn, Wesley, and William; and his brother, James Calvin Oleinik. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph J. and Johanna M. Oleinik.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland, with a memorial luncheon afterwards at 1:30 PM at Salt & Vine in Olney: https://saltandvine.com/olney/.
Those who loved him will remember a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, and a life given generously to the family he cherished.
