Jose Erin Mendez

José E. Méndez, 89, of Reisterstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Caritas House Assisted Living in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born on September 26, 1936, in Guatemala, Central America. José was the devoted husband of Teresa J. Méndez, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2020.

Affectionately known as “Chepe” to family and friends, José immigrated to the United States in 1975 and proudly became a United States citizen in 1995. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to Baltimore Spice Company. Alongside his wife, he was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glyndon and the local Hispanic community.

José and Teresa were known for their warm hospitality. Their home was always open to family, friends, and neighbors, especially during the holidays, and they welcomed others with kindness and generosity. Traveling was one of their greatest joys, and together they explored countless countries, creating cherished memories that lasted a lifetime.

In addition to his beloved wife, José was preceded in death by his parents and other cherished family members.

He leaves behind countless family members and dear friends who will deeply miss his love, kindness, and generous spirit. His legacy of faith, hospitality, and devotion to those he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 63 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, MD 21071.
