Joseph Dudley Shine, Jr.

Joseph Dudley Shine Jr., 63, died on April 23, 2026 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born June 19, 1962, in Boston, Massachusetts, Joe grew up in the Alexandria area of northern Virginia. A graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, he earned an accounting degree from George Mason University.

A longtime resident of Arlington, Virginia, Joe’s main career was as an accountant and software expert for first Arthur Anderson and then Deloitte. After retirement he moved to the Roland Park area of Baltimore.

Joe loved the outdoors and helped build the original boardwalk for Huntley Meadows Park in northern Virginia. He was an avid and skilled photographer, and his beautiful photos adorn the walls of family and friends. He was well-read, enjoyed geology and rock collecting, and delighted in adopting new technology. He was skilled in electronic devices and always willing to those who were less adept. He was particularly appreciated for his sunny personality, loyalty as a friend, and kindness to others.

Joe is survived by his mother, Moira Shannon; his brother, Jim Shine, and sister, Mary-Jo Shine; his niece, Madeline Thomson and nephew, Joseph Eisner. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph D. Shine Sr, and his sister, Moira Beth Shine.

Joe will be buried in Cambridge, Massachusetts in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
