Lacy Jeffreys

January 25, 1929 — May 15, 2025

Lacy Burnette Jeffreys, Ph.D., retired psychologist and long-time resident of
Columbia, MD, died May 15, 2025 at Lorien Columbia (SNF) of SEQUELAE OF
CEREBRAL INFARCTION at the age of 96.


For over 20 years he had been a counselor and Psychotherapist at the Family Life
Center in Columbia, and at Psychological Services and Shepherd-Pratt Counseling
Centers in Annapolis, MD. He also had a private practice in Columbia during the
1980's. In the 1970's he taught courses in psychology and human relations at
Catonsville Community College, Howard County Community College and Antioch
College. He had worked as a counselor at Anne Arundel Community College and had
served on the board of directors at the Family Life Center in Columbia. Prior to
pursuing graduate studies in 1966, he had taught school in Newport News, VA;
worked in the drafting department of the Newport News shipyard; and in the
accounting department of Reynold's Metals, and in real estate in Richmond in 1951.


He received his Ph.D in counseling from the University of Maryland in 1974, his
master's degree in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1968 and
his bachelor's degree in English and Education from the University of Richmond in
1951.
He had been a member of the American Psychological Association, the Maryland
Psychological Association and the American Association of Counseling and
Development. He had been president of PsiChi, an honorary psychology society at
VCU and a member of SigmaChi fraternity at Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia.


In addition to psychology he had many and varied interests, including reading,
especially history and biography. Other interests included meditation, sailing,
motorcycling, ballroom dancing, and current events. In high school and college he
played trombone in a dance band and enjoyed many different kinds of music.
He was born in 1929 and grew up in Chase City, VA where he graduated from high
school and was president of his senior class.


He is survived by his wife, Sandra Jeffreys of Columbia, two sons; Eric Jeffreys of
Rosedale, MD, Niels Jeffreys of Baltimore, MD, step-daughter Dawn Frick of Mt.Airy,
MD, two step-grandchildren (Lauren and Evan) of Mt. Airy, MD, sister-in-law Scottie
Jeffreys of Greenwood, SC, Niece Ann Brewington (Brandon) and grand-niece
Braden, and grand-nephew Chase (Anna) and great-grand-nephew Tate of Clinton,
SC, nephew Bob Jeffreys of Mauldin, SC, and first wife Karen Webb or Joppa, MD.


Preceding him in death were his parents, Harvey E. Jeffreys, Sr. and Edith Lacy
Jeffreys of Chase City, VA and his brother Harvey E. Jeffreys PhD of Greenwood, SC.


A Memorial Service will be held for Lacy Jeffreys on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at The
Meeting House, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia, MD 21045, (443-510-7076) in
Room 300 at 11:am.
