Lorraine Gallagher of Ellicott City, MD, went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2025, at the age of 92. She passed peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by the love of her family and her enduring faith.
Lorraine is survived by her devoted children: her son, John Gallagher and his wife Jackie, and their son Christopher, his wife Caroline, her two great grandchildren Declan and Lennon; and her daughter, Joan Green and her husband Kevin, along with their children Jordan, Jess, and Jacob. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Sr. Alma O’Brien, Mary Hilgenberg, and Pat O’Brien. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Ray Gallagher, and their cherished daughter, Julie.
A trailblazer in her profession, Lorraine graduated from nursing school and became one of the first female nurse anesthetists, paving the way for many women to follow. Throughout her remarkable career, she cared for countless patients in emergency rooms, cardiology intensive care units, and later in home health as a private nurse. Her life’s work was grounded in compassion, diligence, and an unwavering dedication to helping others. In their later years, Lorraine and Ray became successful real estate agents, enjoying a new chapter of life as partners in business. Upon retirement, they moved to Florida and embraced another shared passion—aviation. Together, they earned their pilot licenses, built their own airplane, and fulfilled a lifelong dream of flying. Lorraine was a woman of extraordinary strength, compassion, and faith. She gave generously of her time, volunteering for numerous causes, and always put God and her family first. Her devotion to her Catholic faith, particularly to the Blessed Mother Mary, guided every aspect of her life. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her boundless energy, and the grace with which she supported others. Lorraine’s legacy is one of love, perseverance, and deep faith. She has now reunited in heaven with Ray and Julie, and we take comfort in knowing that she continues to watch over and pray for us all.
