It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark “Buzz” Allen Pemberton Sr., 63, of Arbutus
on June 27, 2023. He is survived by his love of many years, Denise Zonfrilli, his children, Mark Jr. and
Sara Pemberton, Denise’s daughter Kara Acosta (Richie) and their children Angelo and Amadeo, his
mother, Janice Pemberton, his brother Gary Pemberton, (Kelli), his sister Karen Frank (Wesley), and his
niece, Kensey Frank. He is predeceased by his father, Gary Pemberton and his grandparents, Eva and
Rush Pemberton.
Mark grew up in Glen Burnie, MD and graduated from Andover High School in 1977. He went on to
receive his A.A. degree from Catonsville Community College. Mark had a long career in the Procurement
field with the State of Maryland for over 30 years; beginning as a Supply Clerk at the Department of
Transportation Maryland Aviation Administration and then to complete his career as the Deputy
Administrator for the Mass Transit Administration; an achievement he was quite proud of. During Mark’s
career he also served as the President of the Maryland Public Purchasing Association from 2006-2007; a
Chapter of the National Institute of Government Purchasing Inc.
He was fortunate to have maintained lifelong friendships and loved nothing more than an Oriole game
with his boys on a weekday afternoon. Music was a huge part of who he was and over the course of his
life, he attended more than 1000 concerts.
Mark will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his fierce loyalty, and his righteous laugh. He
had the personality and natural charm to make friends no matter the situation. He meant so much, to so
many and he will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held in Mark’s honor on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Mac Nabb
Funeral Home in Catonsville.
