Michael Thomas Bowman

Michael Thomas Bowman, son of Martha Jones and James Bowman, peacefully transitioned after his years’ long battle with pancreatic cancer on May 24, 2025 at the age of 72. Michael was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic and proud alumnus of Morgan State University and a dedicated member of the Iota Phi Theta fraternity. Professionally, he worked over 25 years at W.R. Grace in Curtis Bay, and later at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

A competitor in the truest form, Michael participated in many sports throughout childhood, high school, and college: football, baseball, basketball, and track. Michael was also known for his skill in and love for the game of chess. As he battled cancer, he continued to have routine matches with dear friends that kept ablaze his passion to play and reinforced the practice of resiliency. A Ravens fan as well, Michael would cheer on his home town at every broadcast, over every season, with the intensity as if he were dressed in uniform. This love of sport showed in cards as well. Even adored grandchildren and close friends were not safe from the playful torment of Mike and a deck of UNO cards.

Michael’s lighthearted nature warmed all those he came in contact with. All greetings were intentional and welcome signs of how much Michael enjoyed life and sharing his positive outlook with those he would meet. Michael’s amicable personality was felt not only by his friends and relatives, but by all who met him, in the casual conversations and friendly interactions he had with complete strangers. Michael was someone who showed kindness to all, and always made people feel at ease.

Although he played no instruments himself, Michael’s appreciation for music was well known. His fondness for jazz was felt with the ever-present soundtrack of a smooth groove playing out the speakers in his car and living room. Even during his stay in hospice outside his home, saxophone sounds would fill the background of his hospital room.

Michael is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons Jon-Mychal and Brian,bonus daughters Shannon and Shaunta, daughter-in-law, Adrienne, mother to paternal grandchildren Phoenix and Quentin, and additional bonus grand and great grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, appreciation, and friendship to those that knew him whether for a brief time or a lifetime.

A memorial service will be held on June 27, 2025 at American Legion Post #122.
