Molefe Fino Pheto

July 15, 1957 — December 31, 2025

Silver Spring, MD

Molefe Fino Pheto, age 68, passed away in the early morning December 31, 2025 of respiratory failure.

Molefe was born July 15, 1957, the seventh child of Mmoremena and Pilane Pheto in Mochudi, Botswana. As a child, he enjoyed soccer and playing with his cousin, Sidney. Ever since he was very young, he deeply valued education. After graduating Molefi Secondary School, he went on to study and teach at the University of Botswana. There he graduated with a bachelor’s degree and met Beverly Ann Aimaro, the mother of his two children, Amanda and Brent. The two moved to the United States, first to New York City, then later to the Washington, D.C. area. In DC, Molf worked at VSE Corporation for twenty-plus years. There he was known for, among many other things, his dedication to biking to work, many years before it would be considered to be "cool". Outside of work, Molf spent his time coaching team sports for his daughter, Amanda and being confused by his son, Brent. He was an avid guitar enthusiast, and deeply loved the NY Giants and Michael Jackson. In his later years, he enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides on his scooter, causing mayhem in the places he lived, including often breaking out of the assisted living facility, and trying to drink red wine or Heineken whenever he could.

Molefe was a complicated man who lived in a complicated world. His passing is bittersweet as it marks an end to years long suffering of health complications. He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Scharff and her loving children, Virginia and Josephine, as well as his son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Katie Pheto.

There will be a short service on January 8, 2026, at 2pm. May he rest in everlasting peace.
