With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Preston James Wells, who departed this life on October 21, 2026, at the age of 39.
Born on January 22, 1987, Preston grew up in Lansing, Michigan, where his story began and many of his earliest memories were made. After graduating in 2005 from JW Sexton High School, he later made his home in Severn, Maryland, where he resided for more than 15 years.
Preston built a career in audio and visual technology, dedicating the past eight years to his work as an Audio/Visual Technology Engineer at JetWave. His career reflected his technical abilities and the knowledge he developed throughout his years in the field.
Those who knew Preston knew that he was truly one of a kind. He had a sense of humor that could bring laughter to any room, a stubborn streak that was unmistakably his own, and a determination to live life on his own terms. Preston was unapologetically himself, never one to simply follow the crowd or do things because they were expected of him. He walked his own path, and that independence was part of what made him who he was.
Above all, Preston loved his son, Julien. Fatherhood held a special place in his life, and the pride and love he had for his son will forever be an important part of his legacy.
Preston leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, PFC Julien Duke (U.S. Army); mother, Glenda Wilson (Durham, NC); father and step-mother, James and Purlia Wells (Lansing, MI); sister, Shayna Wells (Baltimore, MD); and brothers, Eric Adams (Lansing, MI), Brandon Wells (Miami, Florida), Joshua Wells (Fort Worth, TX), and Julian Wells (Fort Worth, TX). He leaves behind several cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by his presence.
Though his time here was far too short, Preston's life was uniquely his own. He will be remembered for his humor, his strong will, his individuality, and the love he carried for those closest to him.
His journey was his own, his presence was unforgettable, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever rest in heaven.
