After a brief illness, Robert A. Fulwiler III, known to one and all as Tucker, died peacefully on the evening of May 29, 2025. The cause was complications due to a ruptured appendix. Family and friends were with him until the end. He will be remembered for his love and support of family and friends and his legendary warmth and wit.
Tucker was a proud graduate of Tower Hill School in Wilmington DE. He attended Columbia University in New York City, receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees. He spent the next 2 decades as a Social Studies teacher for schools in Teaneck and Pequannock NJ, then for Maryvale and St. Paul’s School for Girls in Baltimore County. He was especially proud of supporting women and girls in achieving their goals.
After marrying in 1989, Tucker and Anne moved to her hometown of Baltimore in 1991. They landed in Oakenshawe, a community which truly created home. In addition to his years of teaching, Tucker provided visitor services to thousands of people from around the world as he welcomed them to The Bromo, Top of the World, and America's first urban Washington Monument.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anne Cantler Fulwiler; son James, their wife Jesse and daughter Sylvia Rose Lentzwiler; his daughter Charlotte A.S. Fulwiler; sister Robin F. Nohe and her husband Marc Nohe and their children Drew and Margot; in-laws Will and Jan Cantler and Stoney and Mary Cantler, and their children David and Leah (Ezra and Miriam), Eve and Cliff, Sarah and Mike, and Cate and Aiden.
A celebration of life will be held on July 12, 3:00 p.m. at Baltimore Theatre Project, 45 West Preston Street, Baltimore. Contributions in his name may be made to World Central Kitchen, an organization Tucker greatly admired, or the Theatre Project Endowment Fund at the Baltimore Community Foundation.
