Ronald Fayer

Ronald Fayer of Catonsville, MD passed away on September 26th, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, to Eugene and Bessie Fayer, Ron grew up in Westmont, NJ, where he was an Eagle Scout and high school athlete. He received a BS degree from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and MS and PhD degrees from Utah State University. An internationally recognized scientist and recipient of numerous awards for his research on diseases of animals and public health concerns, Ron published an extensive number of articles and multiple books during his 47 years with the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, mostly in Beltsville, MD. Ron enjoyed telling a great story, carving beautiful birds and exploring the outdoors.

Ron is survived by his wife, Nancy Fayer, his stepchildren Ashley Subat and wife, Becky and Bradford Subat and wife Lisa, grandchildren Gray, Dakota, Allison, Jason, Anyi, Jaime, Juan Subat, and Ana and Ben Pepper, and great grandchildren, Maybel and Milo, brother Stanley Fayer, and nephew Eugene Fayer. He was predeceased by his children Anne Michelle Fayer and Robert Fayer.

Ron’s memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville Maryland on Monday October 13th at 10 am with a reception to follow immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Environmental Defense Fund in his name.
