It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Anthony Sowell of Waldorf, Maryland, who passed away unexpectedly, at his home. He was 59 years old.
Born on 2 February 1967, in Morgantown, West Virginia. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in May of 1987 and proudly served our country until his honorable discharge in May of 1995. Scott achieved the rank of Sergeant and was a Combat Veteran having served in Desert Storm. Scott went on to work as a Police Officer for the U.S. Mint and then continued to serve our country as a Federal Air Marshal, from which he retired.
While Scott was extremely passionate about his time in the Marine Corps, he later became equally passionate about his golf game, never giving up an opportunity to make a tee time. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and an avid Marksman. He graduated from Massage Therapy School and earned his black belt in Aikido. He spent time relaxing at home watching action movies and making candles.
Scott was a giver and cared deeply about his family and close friends. Sometimes to a fault and had a heart of gold when someone was in need, never asking for a thing in return. He was a prideful man and an honorable man.
Scott is survived by his two sons; Zachary T. Griffin of Greensboro, North Carolina and Brandon S. Sowell (Ceara) of Gilford, New Hampshire; his mother Katherine Singleton of Bridgeport, West Virginia, his sisters Kettera Smith (Elgie) of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Jai’Cie Starks of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Rebecca Sowell of Bozeman, Montana, Karen Sowell of Waldorf, Maryland; his brothers John Sowell of Morgantown, West Virginia, Timothy Starks (April) of Fremont, West Virginia and Wilbur Singleton (Nichole) of Clarksburg, West Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
Scott was preceded in death by his adopted parents Mattie Walker Sowell and Robert John Sowell; his brothers Thomas Starks, Steven Singleton, Robert Sowell (Sandy) and his sister-in-law Deborah Sowell (John).
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and time to be announced by his family.
