Thomas Allan McNabb, born on December 9, 1960, in Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 31, 2025, in Woodlawn, Maryland, due to undiagnosed advanced heart disease. He was 64 years old.
Tom’s journey in life was characterized by a deep intellect and an unyielding passion for engaging discussions. He was particularly admired for his ability to delve into political debates, showcasing his thoughtful nature and firm beliefs. Tom graduated from Wylie E. Groves High School in Birmingham, MI, and furthered his education at Michigan State University, where he developed a lifelong allegiance to the Michigan State Spartans, especially their basketball teams. His enthusiasm was only matched by his extensive knowledge of team statistics and roster moves throughout the year.
Tom's adventurous spirit was reflected in his love for roller coasters, which his sister described as a metaphor for his life—a series of exhilarating highs followed by unexpected lows. These experiences shaped him into the multifaceted individual that many came to love and admire.
In addition to debating the nuances of political life, Tom was a passionate baker. He delighted in creating sweet treats for his family and friends, skillfully crafting desserts that featured strawberries, rhubarb, and other berries, bringing joy to every gathering he attended.
Recently, he found comfort and companionship in rescuing an adorable dog named Stella from an abusive situation. Together, they formed a bond that symbolized resilience and kindness, with Stella now thriving under the care of Tom's younger sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Greg Heidt.
Tom is survived by his older sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Mark Shada of Garland, TX, and his younger sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Greg Heidt of Edwardsville, IL. His niece, Maryn Heidt, also carries forward his legacy of love and warmth.
He is predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Mary K McNabb, who undoubtedly watch over him with pride.
In the coming weeks, Tom's cremains will remain in Texas until they are returned to his childhood hometown of Franklin, MI, where a small family service will take place in his honor. Tom will be remembered not only for his intellect and baking talents but also for his loving nature and the joy he brought to the lives of those around him.
