William Edward Knight

In loving memory of William Edward Knight, who passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of 79. Born on November 15, 1946, in Washington, DC, William’s journey through life was etched with warmth, laughter, steadfast devotion, and a deep-seated appreciation for the world and its simple joys.

To those who knew him best, William was a constant source of light—a man whose heart was rooted in family, friendship, and the embrace of nature. He reveled in the movement and quiet camaraderie of work; whether driving a coal truck along the endless roads of Pennsylvania or delivering newspapers, pizza, odd jobs and retirement, he found satisfaction in honest labor and the ever-changing landscape of the journey. The hum of the engine and the country unfolding outside his window were both backdrop and companion to a life fully witnessed.

William’s love of nature was pure and unyielding. He found delight in feeding the animals he encountered, sharing a silent understanding with the creatures of the world. In joyful moments large and small, he would take time to play with his beloved Grand cat, Bella, and these moments brought a gentle lightness to his spirit.

He cherished his family beyond all measure. Each conversation, each gathering, each day spent with loved ones was a treasure. His household glowed year-round with Christmas lights, a perennial celebration—the twinkle of bulbs a reflection of William’s enduring joy and belief that light belongs to every season. Holidays were not just a date on the calendar; they were a state of mind and a testament to his commitment to creating comfort, wonder, and belonging.

William had a gift for conversation, and among his greatest pleasures was debating the twists and turns of politics or simply sharing stories with his brother Jimmy on long phone calls. Through laughter and the comfortable hush of shared silence, William wove connection from near and far.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Teresa Womble, sons Jason Knight & Jeremy Knight, brother James Knight and wife Nancy. His grandson Samuel Womble and wife Brittany. Other cherished friends Mary DePelteau, James Weaber, Melissa Nelms and husband Eric. Nieces and nephews, now hold close the memories of William’s embrace and steady encouragement.

He enters rest reunited with those who journeyed before him: his father Warren Eugene Knight, mother Margaret Mary Essex Knight, sister Rita McClanahan, and beloved grandson Anthony Womble. Their spirits, woven into the tapestry of his own, are remembered with reverence and deep affection.

At the heart of William’s life was the ability to find wonder in the ordinary and to illuminate the lives of those around him—whether with a story, a gentle act, or the ever-present, cheerful glow of holiday lights. His legacy endures in the laughter around the dinner table, in the kindness shared amongst friends, and in the twinkling lights that will shine a little brighter, even in his absence.
